Luanda - The Special Envoy of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, on Friday praised Angola for following development paths based, above all, on justice and solidarity.
Speaking to the press after an audience with Angolan President João Lourenço, Edil Baisalov stressed that he was happy to see Angola as a stable and successful country.
“Looking at our history reminded me of my childhood, and that is why today I am happy to see Angola as a stable and successful country," said the envoy of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
The diplomat conveyed the Kyrgyz president's congratulations to his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço on his election as chairman of the African Union (AU), stressing that Angola is one of the closest countries to Kyrgyzstan in Africa.
Edil Baisalov considered it important that Angola, when entrusted with the task of leading the African continent, should receive the support of all its friends.
He took the opportunity to discuss with the Angolan President issues related to cooperation between the two countries and the reform process at the level of the United Nations.
Foreign Minister Téte António and his Kyrgyz counterpart, Jeenbek Kulubaev, recently met in New York on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
Jeenbek Kulubaev asked Angola to support Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
He also asked for support for Kyrgyzstan's application for observer status in the African Union.
Angola and Kyrgyzstan established diplomatic relations on May 31, 2002, but they are still in their infancy.
For this reason, both governments intend to identify areas of mutual interest that will allow the legal framework between the two countries to be expanded, with a view to aligning policies aimed at cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations.
The two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Political Consultative Mechanisms in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the COP-29 Summit in November 2024.
In September 2024, in New York, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the two nations expressed interest in strengthening political-diplomatic cooperation through the signing of legal instruments.DC/ART/TED/AMP
